Britain arrested a 24-year-old man in the west of England under its Terrorism Act amid suspicions that he has links with al-Qaeda and, reportedly, "shoe bomber" Richard Reid. It is the belief of the security and Special Branch services that this man has connections with the network of al-Qaeda groups," Home Secretary David Blunkett said Thursday as a police search of the man's house in Gloucester continued. Four streets around his house were sealed off and evacuated amid concern that he had "explosives" inside, Blunkett said, adding that a mosque was among the places in the neighbourhood cleared of occupants.
