The man who shot arms trader Fatik in Sofia August 19 might have also murdered Bulgaria's wealthiest businessman Iliya Pavlov some four months ago, the country's Deputy Chief Prosecutor Hristo Manchev told Darik Radio on Friday.
Yosif Yossifov, the only one of the six Fatik-shooting suspects who is still in custody is to appeal his detention on Friday, too. Yossifov is said to be the mastermind of the crime gang and the other five were released on bail shortly after being arrested.
Iliya Pavlov, Bulgaria's wealthiest businessman and president of the biggest Bulgarian industrial company, MG Corporation, was shot dead near the central office of MG Corporation on G. M. Dimitrov boulevard at 7:50 pm on March 7.
Bulgarian media claim that Fatik and his father Shaban were involved in drugs and arms traffic even before 1989. Shaban Fatik has set up the channels of Bulgaria's state owned company Kintex that was allegedly involved in arms traffic. Shaban Fatik was on the list of Interpol wanted people and was in hiding in Bulgaria where the communist government protected him.
Six versions are being investigated, chief of the Sofia's investigation service Gen. Valentin Varbanov, said a day after the killing.
Investigation on the attack against Pavlov, president of the biggest Bulgarian industrial company, MG Corporation, also continues.
