The opening of the new season of the National Theatre Ivan Vazov on October 2 coincides with its 100th anniversary and will be commemorated with events during the next three years. Special performances, exhibitions, lectures, contests, charity events, tourist visits and creative meetings will mark the celebration. The first exhibition of the series was opened on the second balcony of the theatre. All the paintings included belong to the theatre and have never been displayed before. A portrait of Ivan Vazov has been displayed in the middle of one of the building’s busier corridors. . The first play, performed at he theatre onOctober 2 , was Bocaccio’s Decameron by Alexander Morfov. The National Theatre had the first professional Bulgarian theatre troupe in 1904. Since then, it has gained the reputation as the best of Bulgarian performing sites. It has united the literary elite and famous composers and directors. It is offering 25 titles for the coming year, some classical, the rest contemporary, or guest visits from abroad.
