Pro-Assad
Association of Syrians in Bulgaria
Set up in the 1990s, initially for cultural purposes, with ties to the Syrian regime. Many Syrians left it when the protests began.
Anti-Assad
Free Syria Association
The first group to unite opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appeared months after the uprising began in March 2011. It seeks to raise awareness about developments in Syria.
Syrian Democratic League
Founded by a group of regime opponents at the end of 2014 after splintering off from the FSA. Prefers to work with refugees, rather than voice political positions on Syria's future.
