Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev has kept his options to run for a second term in office.

Plevneliev is not taking part in next week's presidential elections, but has not explicitly ruled himself out for a subsequent election. His term expires in January.

"I was fair to Bulgarian citizens and a few months [before the elections] said there would not be a second term immediately after the first one," he has said in an intervew with several school children, under the Bulgarian National Television's series dubbed "little reporters".

The head of state has explained he doesn't know yet what job he will pursue after leaving the Presidency.

Upon receiving the kids at the Bulgarian Presidency in downtown Sofia, he has assessed his own term as rather difficult, singling out the political crisis of February 2013, when the first GERB-led government of Boyko Borisov stepped down under pressure from street protesters.

Asked about the meeting that left the strongest impression in him during his term, he has pointed to the conversation with Pope Francis.
