UN Designates July 11 as Srebrenica Remembrance Day Despite Serbian Opposition
The United Nations has officially designated July 11 as an annual day of remembrance for the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre
As of October 1, Russia will take over the UN Security Council Presidency.
This is the month when the process of selection of a new Secretary General of the UN may end.
“The Council will continue but it may also finish the process of preparing a proposal for the General Assembly regarding the nomination of a new UN Secretary General,” announced the Permanent Representative of Russia.
The first meeting of the council will be on October 3. On October 5, there will be another round of voting for UN Secretary General.
The difference this time is that the ballots of the permanent and non-permanent members of the Security Council will have different colours. This will show which candidate is supported by the countries that have the right to a veto: the UK, China, Russia, the USA and France.
