"He angers us enough, this Mr Tolstoy, with the nonsense he blathered yesterday, but it is his business. We have been Bulgaria for 1300 years and have withstood in a way no-one would buy us. Yes, there have been many traitors throughout history and we are paying for such a treason. But we are again showing that we abide by our legal commitments."
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov comments on the statement made by Russian MP (then a candidate) and journalist Pyotr Tolstoy, who sparked controversy in Bulgaria by commenting on relations with the country on Sunday, as general elections were ongoing in Russia.
Borisov is referring to the fact that first Bulgarian state set up in the Balkan peninsula dates back to the 7th century.
