Steeplechase contender Silvia Danekova has tested positive to a banned substance at the Rio Olympics 2016.

Two consecutive tests have found methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta (CERA) in her blood, including the B sample.

The Bulgarian Olympics Committee has confirmed the news.

The development comes before the 3000 m steeplechase race, as the athletics program begins on Friday.

Danekova has now been barred from the Olympics.

Her case has become the first one of a positive drug test since the Olympics began earlier in August.
