Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
A French citizen driving a car was beaten over the right of way by the driver of a Bulgarian-registered car in central Sofia, police announced on Wednesday.
The French citizen asked police for help, claiming that a man driving an Audi A6 car had chased his vehicle, blocked its way at the crossing of Marin Drinov Str. and Asen Zlatarov Str., dragged him out and beat him, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The Frenchman was taken to hospital for a medical check.
The attacker fled the scene after the beating. A suspect was later arrested in connection with the incident, police said.
Police didn’t release details about the identity of the French citizen but according to local media reports he is a freelance photographer who has been living and working in Bulgaria for several years.
The alleged violation of the right of way hasn't led to an impact between the two cars.
Beatings over actual over presumed violations of the right of way increased recently in Bulgaria where deliberate neglect of traffic rules on the road and dangerous driving often lead to fatalities.
