Bulgaria: Eleven Irregular Migrants Detained in North-Central Bulgaria

Bulgarian police have detained 11 irregular migrants in the back of a Turkish-registered truck near the village of Kilifarevo, in north-central Bulgaria.

The migrants – 5 men, 3 women and 3 children – claimed to be Syrian citizens. They were taken to a refugee accommodation centre in Elhovo, in southern Bulgaria, according to Sofia-based Focus news agency.

Kilifarefo is located near the city of Veliko Tarnovo, close to the main route linking Sofia with Ruse, on the Danube river, and Varna, on the Black Sea coast.

The truck driver was released after police found that he didn’t know that the migrants had been hidden in the back of his truck by an unknown man in Turkey.
