Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
In view of the forthcoming start of the summer season and the UEFA European Championship, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on Tuesday a set of recommendations to Bulgarians who are to embark on trips abroad.
The ministry advises Bulgarians to inform themselves in advance about the latest situation in the country they are traveling to and to respect the security measures which are in place there.
It also recommends to citizens to check in advance the validity of their identity documents and to keep them safe during the trip.
In case of traveling with personal cars, citizens are advised to respect the local traffic laws and rules and to pay any applicable charges when using the road network. They have also to abide by the rules and places designated for rest and camping.
The ministry recommends to citizens to read carefully the travel advice for the respective country on the ministry's website and to register in advance for the “Traveling to” service.
If the need arises, citizens are advised to turn to the Bulgarian diplomatic representation abroad for additional information and assistance.
The ministry also reminds that between June 10 and July 10, France will host the UEFA Euro 2016.
Noting that that the main concern of the organisers is to ensure the safety of participants, local football fans and the numerous international tourists expected to visit France during the football championship, the ministry issued concrete recommendations to Bulgarians wishing to attend matches from the Euro.
Citizens are advised to be prepared for heightened checks of their identity documents and luggage – both at checkpoints on French borders as well as the entrance to stadiums and fan zones in the host cities.
The ministry recommends to citizens to follow the orders of police during checks of documents, personal luggage and vehicles as well as in crisis situations.
Visitors should keep in mind that the access to stadiums will be controlled at two stages – an initial security check in the perimeter of the stadium (physical check of persons and personal luggage) followed by secondary control of tickets and personal documents prior to entry.
Bulky personal luggage and prohibited items (pocket knives, sharp items, fireworks, large umbrellas, vuvuzela, alcohol) will be handed for storage.
Persons not in the possession of identity documents or people with aggressive behaviour will not be admitted.
The ministry notes that the strict double control necessitates earlier arrival at stadiums well before kick-off time.
The visitors of fan zones will be also subject to heightened preliminary checks at their entrance, with bulky luggage handed for storage, while people carrying prohibited items (knives, fireworks and alcohol) will not be admitted.
In the event of incident or threat or if other need arises, people are advised to dial the 112 common European emergency number.
