Reports emerged last night of renewed Russian missile fire targeting the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, intensifying fears of escalating conflict in the region
The perpetrator of the suicide bombing, which occurred in Istanbul on Saturday, has been identified as Mehmet Ozturk, a suspected member of Islamic State (IS).
Ozturk blew himself up on the busy Istiklal avenue, claiming the lives of four other people and leaving 36 injured.
Born in 1992 in Gaziantep, he has been sought as IS suspect from “terror-qualified missing person” list, Hurriyet Daily informs.
His identity was confirmed on Sunday after authorities had conducted DNA tests of blood samples taken from his relatives.
Turkish authorities have focused their search on two IS suspects in connection with the bombing, one of them being Ozturk, who appeared on surveillance cameras during the attack.
The other is Savas Yildiz, who is among four IS members currently being sought in Turkey.
The bombing on Saturday is the latest in a series of attacks occurring in Istanbul and Ankara in the past months.
It comes less than a week less after the suicide bombing in the central Kizilay neighbourhood of the Turkish capital, which claimed the lives of 37 people and left hundreds other injured.
Istanbul's popular tourist Sultanahmet square was the site of a suicide attack in January when thirteen foreigners were killed and fourteen other injured.
