European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos, is to visit the Bulgarian town of Elhovo located close to the border with Turkey on Thursday.

Avramopoulos will inspect the measures applied by Bulgaria in guarding its borders and will assess Bulgarian efforts in managing the migrant flows.

During his visit, the European Commissioner is scheduled to meet with Bulgarian Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova.

Avromopoulos and Bachvarova are to give a joint press briefing at the regional directorate of border police in Elhovo, the interior ministry informs.

Among the topics of discussion will be the ongoing refugee crisis and the role of Bulgaria as an external border of the EU.
