Former Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has been acquitted of all three charges against him.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS) acquitted Tsvetanov of his refusal to allow the use of special surveillance means (SRS) against a former anti-mafia chief.
Tsvetanov had been accused of repeatedly refusing to order the use of SRS against the former director of the regional unit of the Chief Directorate Combating Organised Crime (GDBOP) in the city of Veliko Tarnovo Orlin Todorov.
In May 2014, Sofia City Court (SGS) convicted Tsvetanov and sentenced him to four years in prison.
The Sofia Appellate Court upheld the sentence, but VKS revoked it and returned the judgement for review justifying its decision with the prejudice of the appellate magistrates.
Later the Sofia Appellate Court acquitted Tsvetanov, but the judgement was returned after protest by the prosecution.
Tsvetanov was also acquitted of two other charges he was facing –the one being of embezzlement and the other for allowing unlawful wiretapping.
Thus with the latest judgement of VKS, Tsvetanov has been acquitted of all three charges.
