Turkey has denied Bulgarian media reports suggesting that the term of appointment of its consul general Alper Aktas in Plovdiv was allegedly cut short.
Aktas has been appointed to a position at the office of the chief foreign affairs adviser at the President’s Office of Turkey, private Radio Focus has reported citing an announcement from Turkey’s Consulate General in Plovdiv on Friday.
“The appointment in question was planned some time ago and the term of “recalling” some media had used clearly does not correspond to the truth, [Turkey’s] diplomatic mission in Plovdiv said,” according to focus-news.net.
Bulgarian daily 24 Chasa reported on Thursday that Turkey had allegedly recalled its consul from Plovdiv, cutting short his appointment. Alper Aktas’ term of office was set to expire in summer 2016.
The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has said they would not comment on “decisions relating to a potential termination of the consul’s appointment”, according to 24 Chasa.
