Coldest Night of Winter Hits Bulgaria, Warming Ahead

Bulgaria had its coldest night this winter with temperature below 20 degrees Celsius in the northwestern regions.
Air temperature fell to minus 24 degrees Celsius in Knezha, minus 22 in Dragoman, close to the border with Serbia, and minus 20 degrees in Sofia and Kyustendil, in southwestern Bulgaria.
Vidin and Pazardjik reported temperature of minus 19, whereas in Plovdiv, in southern Bulgaria, the air temperature was minus 18 degrees.
The national meteo service has issued a Code Orange warning of dangerous weather conditions for northern Bulgaria and the high western plains.
Weather will be mostly sunny today with fog along the Danube in the morning. Clouds will start building from the west in the afternoon but no snow is expected to fall.
Temperatures will remain between minus 10 degrees and minus 5 degrees in northern Bulgaria, while in southern Bulgaria they will be between minus 4 and plus 1 degree Celsius.
The weather is forecast to be sunny in the mountains with strong northern winds. Maximum temperature is forecast at minus 8 degrees Celsius at an altitude of 1200 meters and minus 13 at an altitude of 2000 meters.
Monday will come with mild western winds in northern Bulgaria and sunny spells before noon. Fog is expected in parts of southern Bulgaria.
Clouds will build up later in the day and light snow is expected to fall in some regions on Monday night.
Air temperature is expected to rise and range between minis 5 and zero in northern and central Bulgaria, while in the southern regions temperature is forecast at 2-3 degrees above zero at midday on Monday.
Tuesday will see a further rise in temperature, with mild winds from the northwest.
