Serbia Expresses Solidarity with Ukraine but Remains Neutral on Russian Sanctions
Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic expressed solidarity with Ukraine during talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Belgrade
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic on Sunday said he would seek early elections less than two years after having won the last poll by a landslide.
In a meeting of his center-right Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) scheduled for the weekend, he argued the step should be taken "for victory, for the future of Serbia".
Last week media reports suggested he was considering a snap poll, and he himself opined the only reason he would avoid a snap vote was the risk of reversing all the progress made under his tenure.
The decision of Vucic comes as the party is seeking EU membership, with two chapters having been opened in December.
In March 2014, the SNS won 158 seats in the 250-strong Parliament.
