Bulgaria has advised its nationals travelling to Turkey to exercise extra caution following Tuesday’s terror attack in Istanbul that left at least 10 people dead and 15 injured.

Extra caution should be exercised particularly on visits to big Turkish cities and popular tourist destinations, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said earlier on Tuesday that it had no information about any Bulgarians killed or injured in the blast.

The bombing took place in Sultanahmet square, near the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, major tourist sites in the centre of one of the world's most visited cities.

No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion but Reuters quoted two senior Turkish security officials as saying that there was a high probability that militants of the Islamic State group were responsible.
