Lyutvi Mestan, the former leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) who was dismissed in December, is to hold a press conference on Thursday.
Mestan is widely expected to announce whether or not he intends on setting up a new political project after being summarily removed as head of the predominantly ethnic Turk party and expelled on Christmas Eve.
The reason cited was criticism hurled at him by honorary chair of the DPS, Ahmed Dogan, who accused him of betraying national interest by siding with Turkey on the downing of the Russian Su-24 fighter-bomber in November.
Earlier this week, several lawmakers who announced they were quitting the DPS group to join Mestan, announced he was to talk to the media, and the report was officially confirmed later.
It is not yet clear whether or not Mestan is to found a new political project. In his last interaction with reporters late in December, he said such a step depended on the "dialogue with supporters" he was about to begin.
