Abundant snowfall and heavy traffic are expected across Bulgaria on Sunday as the worsening of the weather conditions will coincide with the last day of the festive period when many people will be returning from their holidays.
A yellow code for snowfall has been issued for all regions of Bulgaria on Sunday, with forecasts predicting the formation of snow cover.
Snow is expected to initially start falling in the western part of the country on Saturday night and will then spread to the eastern regions.
The minimum temperatures across the country will range between minus 12 and minus 7, while in the southwest the temperatures will be between minus 5 and minus 2.
The maximum temperature in northern Bulgaria will not exceed minus 7 degrees, while on the Black Sea coast and southwestern Bulgaria it will not rise above 3 degrees.
The formation of black ice is possible on the Black Sea coast, the southeastern parts of the country and around the valley of the Struma river.
The movement of heavy trucks with a weight of more than 12 tonnes will be temporarily suspende between 14:00 and 20:00 EET on the motorways and the busiest roads.
Intensive traffic is expected at the entrances of Sofia, on Trakia, Hemus and Struma motorways and on the E-79 road in the section between Sofia and Kulata border checkpoint.
Traffic police advised citizens to drive carefully and at a speed suitable for the meteorological conditions as well as to observe the introduced speed limits, road signalization and instructions.
