Russia has suspended talks with Turkey over the Turkish Stream pipeline and the Akkuyu nuclear plant amid rising tensions between Ankara and Moscow over the downing of a Turkish plane.

This comes after Russia introduced sanctions against Turkey over the weekend.

"Current supplies of Russian gas do not fall under the scope of the embargo and will be carried out in accordance with the contract," Interfax.ru quotes its source "familiar with the situation" as saying.

Turkish Stream was announced as an alternative to South Stream, a pipeline project that was supposed to carry Russian gas under the Black Sea, and then via Bulgaria and Serbia, to Central Europe.
