Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
The top ranking Bulgarian male tennis player Grigor Dimitrov defeated Gael Monfils from France in the exhibition match held at the Arena Armeec hall in Sofia on Saturday.
The match turned into a true spectacle for tennis lovers in Bulgaria, with both players demonstrating their excellent skills, attractive play and sense of humour.
Dimitrov won with 6:3, 6:4, recording his second victory in an exhibition match this year after the Bulgarian had defeated Roger Federer in New York earlier in March.
At the end of the match, the Bulgarian shared his intentions and wishes for next year, revealing that he is training hard for the new season. He wished himself a good health in order to be able to fulfill his future plans.
The match was an emotional moment for Dimitrov as it constituted his first time to play before Bulgarian audience. The audience itself was an impressive one, with 12 000 spectators cheering their favourite in the hall and many others in front of the TV screen.
Dimitrov and Monfils have met each other in four official matches, with the Frenchman having won three of the encounters.
The only time the Bulgarian has achieved a victory in an official match against his French opponent so far, was at the semifinal in Bucharest in 2014 when Monfils retired due to an injury. Dimitrov then went on to win the tournament.
