Kosovo police fired tear gas to disperse about 150 protesters outside the government building in Pristina on Wednesday as a crisis deepens over relations with Serbia, Reuters reported.
The protests followed news of the arrest of an opposition lawmaker charged with of releasing tear gas in parliament on Tuesday, whem police and protesters also clashed in Pristina.
Opposition supporters gathered in front of the government headquarters, throwing stones and paint against the building. Thirteen protesters were arrested and four policemen were injured, AP reported, citing a police statement.
A EU-brokered agreement to grant greater local powers to ethnic Serb municipalities in Kosovo as well as the possibility to receive some financing from Serbia is one particular reason for the protests, Reuters said.
Earlier on Wednesday, bomb disposal experts detonated a hand grenade thrown into the backyard of Kosovo's Constitutional Court building, which is due to rule in the next few weeks whether the agreement is line with Kosovo constitution.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Serbia doesn’t recognise the sovereignty of its former province.
