Bulgaria voiced concerns on Thursday over the failure of the main political parties in neigbouring Macedonia to implement their earlier agreements on resolving the political crisis in the EU-candidate country.
Macedonia’s status of candidate for EU membership requires “a clear political will” on part of everyone without exception “to implement the agreements reached on June 2 and July 15,” the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
By doing this the Macedonian political parties will create prerequisites for “unconditional return to the reform process”, which has no alternative in view of the country’s bids to join the EU and NATO.
A quick resolution to the political crisis would demonstrate that both Macedonia’s government and opposition are committed to the European choice of the people, the statement said.
“We are convinced that the EU remains strongly committed to supporting the efforts aimed at keeping the Republic of Macedonia on its European course and we will continue to do what is necessary to achieve this goal.”
