Italian actress Claudia Cardinale on Thursday was awarded an honorary degree by the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts (NATFA) in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Shooting movies is like "dreaming a dream together with other people - even though I am hardly a good example, since I've never dreamed of becoming a cinema actress," Cardinale told the audience of students who attended the ceremony.

Cardinale arrived in Sofia on Tuesday for the first screening of Twice Upon a Time in the West, a Sergio Leone tribute movie by Bulgarian director Boris Despodov where the legendary Italian actress is starring as herself for the first time in her career.

She also had a meeting on Thursday with Bulgarian Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov.

"We laughed as I told her Philippopolis [the ancient name for Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second-largest city] is older than Rome," BGNES wire service quotes Rashidov as saying.
