The repair of the MiG-29 fighter jets by Poland will be twice cheaper than the cost, which would have been incurred if the maintenance was carried out by the the Russian MiG company.
Nenchev revealed that a price, which is 20-30% lower than the one requested by the Russian company, was negotiated with Poland.
Furthermore, since Poland is a member state of the EU, Bulgaria is exempt from VAT, which means that the price will decrease by another 20%.
As regards, the signing of a final contract on the repair of the fighter jets, Nenchev said that Bulgaria faced no obstacles, but there were certain procedures in Poland, which could take some time.
The minister expects that two repaired engines will be delivered by the end of the month, which Bulgaria will use on loan.
In case the two engines were not to be delivered, Nenchev was assured by the commander of the Bulgarian Air Force that two engines are already at disposal and another two will be repaired.
The minister noted that the repair of the MiG-29s should not divert the efforts of the country on purchasing a new fighter jet.
Bulgaria and Poland signed an agreement on cooperation in the military sphere and letter of intent on military-technical cooperation.
The agreements were signed during the visit of Polish Defence Minister Tomasz Siemoniak to Bulgaria last week.
The contract with the Russian company on the maintenance of the MiG-29 fighter jets expired in September.
