Greece has submitted a formal request for a bailout loan from the special support fund of the eurozone - the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).

This was announced by a spokesperson of the ESM on Wednesday, daily Kathimerini reports.

The eurozone finance ministers will consider the application, which is formally addressed to the President of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem.

During his speech at the European Parliament earlier on Wednesday, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said that Athens will present a detailed list of proposals within the next two days.

Tsipras once again reaffirmed his stance that the "no" vote at the Sunday referendum did not mean that Greece wanted to leave the eurozone or the EU.

European Council President Donald Tusk made it clear that a decision has to be reached within the next four days, setting out Sunday as the deadline for negotiating a deal.
