Bulgarian Parliament has approved the one day labor contracts specifically for seasonal agricultural work.

The amendments to the Labor Code are set to improve the registration of short-term seasonal work. However, the time worked under such a contract will not count towards one’s labor experience, but employees will be able to get their full insurances.

These contracts will be valid if signed for no more than 90 days.

‘’Employers are benefitted through the new contracts because their workers will be insured in case of incidents,’’ Labor Minister Ivaylo Kalfin said at the Parliamentary hearing Wednesday. ‘’ They should be interested in the new procedure because employing new people will be a registered expense on the part of their company. Employees are also benefitted because they will be fully insured in terms of healthcare and retirement benefits.’’

A heated debate arose in the hall, when leftist MP Valeri Zhablyanov stated that this move would bring the system back and will bring little to no benefits.

‘’It is impressive when representatives of a party that claims to uphold leftist value system use such inadequate argumentation to support the existing exploitation of labor in agriculture,’’ he added.
