"I am ready to die for Russia, since people there are strong; I don't want to die like a fool in France as it is today.... I was raised [there] with values I don't share.
I love Russia very strongly. And I am very proud of having become a Russian citizen. I am proud of having become part of this huge country, a country of immense spirituality... Actor G?rard Depardieu commenting on his love for Russia in an interview with Russia's InoTV channel.
Depardieu left Russia after French President Francois Hollande announced the adoption of a 75% tax on incomes above EUR 1 M in end-2012, a move later revoked by the country's top court.
Less than a fortnight later the world-renowned actor was granted Russian citizenship.
