Taiwan's New President Issues Warning to China in Inaugural Address
Taiwan's freshly sworn-in president, Lai Ching-te, delivered a stern message to China, calling for an end to its military and political threats
At least 3200 are known to have died just two days after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, according to officials.
Numbers of injured have reached 6500, while the number of those affected by the disaster is yet to be specified, with at least a million children being among them, the Bulgarian National Television reports citing UNICEF data.
The quake has left the 30-million nation in a deep humanitarian crisis, with a number of states and organizations now committed to delivering aid.
Along with the victims in Nepal, people in neighboring China and India have also died, and Mount Everest saw its deadliest-ever avalanche triggered by the quake which has killed at least 17 climbers.
Footage posted on YouTube by a German climber shows a group of people at a the base camp on Mount Everest as they are hit by the avalanche, with a wall of snow, rock and ice falling upon them. There are still some stranded climbers on Mount Everest, though more than 50 have been saved, according to Tourism Minister Deepak Amatya quoted by the BBC.
As many as 48 aftershocks have been registered since Saturday, the strongest measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale.
Tens of thousands of buildings across the country have been left destroyed by the disaster, including many historic landmarks.
Saturday's earthquake has been the strongest and deadliest to hit Nepal since 1934, when more than 10 000 people lost their lives, and the capital Kathmandu was leveled to the ground together with several other cities.
