Russia's Consulate in Bulgaria will provide assistance in the investigation that authorities have launched into the murder of a boy whose body was found in a suitcase in March.

Nikita Leontyev, 5, whose father was a Russian citizen, was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and lived in the city of Perm.

The boy's body was found incidentally near the village of Pasarel, not far from the capital Sofia, in a green suitcase.

Authorities now believe Nikita was killed twenty days after his mother, Ana Leontyeva was found dead in the Black Sea town of Primorsko, a popular summer resort.

Daily 24 Chasa wrote Tuesday that "a man of Caucasian origin" was being sought by police over the killings.

Unofficial information cited by mass circulation daily editions suggest three Russian citizens might be involved in Nikita's murder.

RIA Novosti agency quotes Aleksey Ushakov, who heads the consular department of the Russian Federation in Sofia, Bulgarian authorities have asked Russia for assistance and that "all assistance possible" with be subsequently provided.

However, Ushakov stresses that there is no precise information so far as to whether the two victims are Russian citizens.

In his words, the relation between the two is also yet to be established through an expert analysis.
