Bulgaria: Bulgaria to Skip Euro Weightlifting Contest Over Positive Doping Test

Bulgaria has withdrawn its weightlifting team from next month’s European championship after 11 athletes failed a doping test.

"Bulgarian athletes will not participate in any international events" until the case is cleared, the AP quoted the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation as saying.

The Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation last week said that eight men and three women Bulgarian athletes, who were preparing for the April 9-18 European championship in Tbilisi, Georgia, had tested positive for  stanozolol.

According to the results of the sudden test conducted by a laboratory in Cologne, Germany, earlier this month, the A samples of the 11 Bulgarian weightlifters has shown the presence of the anabolic steroid banned for use in competitions by many international sports bodies.
