Bulgaria's Justice Ministry published on Tuesday a bill amending and supplementing the Criminal Code, which is focused on providing adequate protection against terrorism.
The amendments address gaps in the Criminal Code, especially in view of the potential danger of terrorist activities, which are one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
Furthermore, Bulgaria has to fulfill its commitments under UN Security Council resolution 2178 on fight against terrorism, which was adopted unanimously on 24 September 2014.
One of the measures foresees limiting the free movement of people traveling with the aim of preparing, planning or participating in terrorist attacks, the ministry's press service reports.
Other measures include prosecution and punishment of any person involved in the financing, planning and preparation of terrorist attacks or in support of acts of terrorism.
The amendments foresee criminalising particular preliminary actions aimed at perpetrating terrorist crimes abroad such as border crossing with such intentions.
Punishments are also foreseen for those providing or receiving terrorist training and those preaching or instigating discrimination, violence or hatred.
Computer crimes that evolve into cyber-terrorism are also to be punished, while other measures aim at limiting opportunities for terrorist groups to establish safe shelter.
Most of the sentences proposed by the amendments foresee imprisonment for 8-10 years.
