Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
Contemporary art will be abundant in the program of the Berlin ''Days of Bulgarian Culture - New European Accents'' to be held on February 7 and 8. Focus will be put on civil causes, humanitarian initiatives, and various causes for social tension.
The Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin and human rights organization Marginalia took the initiative of organizaing the event in collaboration with the National Cultural Institute to the Ministry of Foreign affairs, the Bulgarian Embassy in Berlin, BNT, Bulgarian Council of Electronic Media and the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
Bulgarian National Television (BNT) will present episodes from the hit series Pod prikritie (Undercover) and Chetvarta vlast (Fourth estate). The national media will be represented by GM Vyara Ankova, Program Director Sevda Shishmanova and the actor Vladimir Penev.
The documentary movie '' The File of National Security Service'' (NSS), directed by Ema Konstantinova, scripted by Lora Shumkova and produced by the Commission on NSS files, will also take part in the official program of the festival.
Georgi Lozanov and Stoyan Radev's documentary '' Bulgaria, too is a big mistake'', raising alarm on contemporary issues in Bulgaria, will also be included.
The audience in Berlin will also have the opportunity to see Sadilishteto (The Judgement) by director Stefan Komandarev. He will later join the discussion on ''Bulgarian cinema and the refugee issue'', alongside actor Asen Blatechki and producers Alexander Ris and Christine Haupt from ''Neue Mediopolis Film Production''.
The Sofia Opera and Ballet will be featured in the program of the festival with a 30-minute video of the performances to be presented at the Bavaria theater from 12 to 17 September this year. The production chosen is Richard Wagner's four-cycle opera The Ring of the Nibelung.
