Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
Over 200 policemen, firefighters and rescuers with a helicopter cooperated in the rescue of three children that had been reported missing on Saturday evening in the mountainous region of Sinite kamani (Blue stones) near the Bulgarian town of Sliven.
The children were found on Sunday morning in a visibly good condition, the Interior Ministry reported.
Later it became clear, that after an examination at the local hospital it was established that the two boys have suffered frostbite of their feet, while the girl had broken shoulder and radius bones and has been admitted to the Orthopedic Department.
The hospital's deputy director on medical activities Hrisant Hrisantov stated that the children were in good general condition, electronic daily Dnevnik reports.
The rescue operation lasted around 12 hours until the three children aged 5,7 and 9 were finally found.
The father of the children submitted the signal for their disappearance, Focus news agency reports.
The 52-year man went for a walk in the mountainous park with his children on Saturday.
During his descent on Saturday afternoon he lost sight of his three children – a girl aged 8, and two boys aged 5 and 7.
He did not find them near the car, which had been parked at the beginning of the path and went back to search for them.
After he had spent several hours in an unsuccessful search for them, he submitted a signal to the emergency service in the evening.
The area in which the children were searched covered nearly 7095 hectares.
In the summer an operation of a similar scale was organised for the search of teenagers, who had been reported missing in the region of Botev peak in Stara Planina mountain.
