Left-wing ABV will withdraw its support for the coalition government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov only if it allows for the accumulation of negative decisions and discrepancies with the programme declaration that had been signed by the parties supporting the government.
This was announced by former Bulgarian President (2002-2012) and leader of the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) Georgi Parvanov at a press conference in Parliament, electronic daily Dnevnik reports.
Parvanov's statement comes after the earlier comments of the deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of ABV Kiril Tsochev.
Following the hearing of Prime Minister Borisov in Parliament on Wednesday regarding the South Stream pipeline, Tsochev exclaimed that ABV was to maintain its position, which is in favour of the project.
Parvanov remarked that ABV aims to bring stability to the government, with avoiding any negative scenarios.
The former President said that ABV has not entered into partnership with the largest ruling party GERB in order to undermine it, assuring that ABV is not going to protest every move of the government.
Parvanov stated that ABV played its role as a social corrector well and advocated certain policies, with which it could not compromise for a long time.
According to him, six Bulgarian governments were to blame for the developments around the South Stream project.
Parvanov blamed the triple coalition of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and the National Movement Simeon II, and personally its Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev (2005-2009) for not making the energy projects irreversible.
The former President said that if the things had happened back in 2009, Bulgaria would not have faced the current situation.
He stated that the incumbent government was the least to be blamed, but the guilt of the first Borisov Cabinet (2009-2013) was enormous.
His party could criticise the government, but only in order of finding solutions and taking actions towards restoring Bulgaria's role as an energy player.
Parvanov thinks that Bulgaria will experience difficulties with the supply of natural gas.
The former President commented that instead of Bulgaria becoming the energy hub of the Balkans and its centre of natural gas distribution, it will end being a mere user.
He said that the latest developments signal that Turkey has become Russia's strategic energy partner, and it will establish its monopoly over the energy sector of the region.
Parvanov reminded that talks on South Stream had started at a meeting between himself and Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2007.
Parvanov did not see a perspective for the construction of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant under the present circumstances, which was to have a lasting negative impact on Bulgaria's energy sector.
