Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
Shortly before last week's operation of the State Agency for National Security against extremism, a video with Bulgarian-language captions was released on the internet, in which Islamic State explains its ideology and denies having committed any atrocities.
The leitmotif of the video is that everything that is published on IS is a lie, reports private bTV station.
The video claims that radical Muslims do not kill innocent people, do not persecute infidels, and do not mutilate women.
The Arabist Vladimir Chukov said that it was worrying that a video with Bulgarian captions has appeared, which means that among the sympathisers and followers of IS are people who know Bulgarian.
Chukov called for the investigation of these people in order to find who they are, what they do and what are their motives.
According to Stefan Stoykov, witness on the lawsuit against the imams from Pazardzhik charged with preaching radical Islam, the video is directed towards Muslims who are worried of what is happening in the areas in which the IS is active.
Stoykov added that the purpose of the video is to comfort these people and assure them that the ongoing events are different from what has been portrayed.
Experts claim that the film is addressed to poor Muslims using classical methods of propaganda such as sermons and music.
The video was published by an anonymous user, who styles himself as the Warrior of Allah in Bulgaria.
