Biden's Move: US Bans Russian Enriched Uranium Imports
The White House press office announced that US President Joe Biden has enacted legislation prohibiting the importation of enriched uranium from Russia into the United States
The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Bulgaria does not recognise the agreement that had been recently signed between the Russian Federation and the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Abkhazian counterpart Raul Khadzhimba signed an agreement on alliance and strategic partnership on November 24 in Sochi.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria expresses its concern that the agreement threatens the security in the region and will have a negative impact on the efforts towards stabilisation of the conflict zone in the Caucasus.
The agreement breaches the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, contradicts the principles of international law, and contravenes Russia's international commitments, including the ceasefire agreement signed on 12 August 2008, as well as the 8 September 2008 agreement that laid out the measures for its implementation.
The Spokesperson reminded that, on numerous occasions Bulgaria has expressed its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders.
Bulgaria has not changed its position on Abkhazia and South Ossetia – it recognises neither the self-proclaimed states, nor the results of the elections that were held two years ago.
Furthermore, Bulgaria does not maintain any direct contacts with the political leadership of the two breakaway regions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its belief that the resolution of the conflicts in Georgia and the Caucasus as a whole, could be achieved only through peaceful means, and abstention from the use of force was vital for their regulation.
Bulgaria expressed its firm support for continuation of the dialogue within the framework of the Geneva talks.
