Deadly Russian Assault on Odesa Sparks Mourning, Allegations of War Crimes
Tragedy struck the Ukrainian port city of Odesa as Russia unleashed a devastating assault, claiming the lives of five people and leaving over 30 injured
In 2014 the number of casualties in traffic accidents in Bulgaria will most likely exceed 600, the chairperson of the Association of car accident victims Vladimir Todorov told the Focus news agency.
Since the beginning of the year on Bulgaria's roads died 571 people and more than 7000 have been injured, according to data of Bulgaria's Interior Ministry.
According to Todorov, the main cause of the rising numbers is the increase of the average speed by 20 km/h.
The drivers' sense of impunity, in Todorov's words, was provoked by the fact that since the beginning of 2014, the mobile speed cameras and electronic speeding tickets were outlawed by the Supreme Administrative Court.
“Since the end of January there are around 15 speed cameras,” Todorov said. “Before that there were a total of 150. The speed limits cannot be enforced and the violators cannot be caught and punished. The number of casualties in car accidents had dropped by 40%. We had set an example. Now we have to start all over.”
