Bulgaria’s caretaker government has adopted a decision on cross-border cooperation under three programs in the 2014-2020 programming period.

The three programs, INTERACT III, the Danube Transnational Program 2014-2020 and the Balkan-Mediterranean Program, are to be approved by the European Commission, according to reports of econ.bg.

The main goal of INTERACT III is to encourage the exchange of experience and the dissemination of good practice and innovative approaches related to the management and implementation of programs for territorial cooperation.

INTERACT supports Managing Authorities, Joint Technical Secretariats, Monitoring Committees, National Contact Persons, First Level Controllers, Certifying Authorities and Audit Authorities across Europe.

The four INTERACT offices are located in Vienna (Austria), Turku (Finland), Valencia (Spain), and Viborg (Denmark).

The total budget of the program is EUR 46 344 220, including EUR 39 392 587 under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Bulgaria’s national contribution to the program amounts to EUR 117 132 distributed into seven equal installments.

The Danube Program includes Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany (Bavaria and Baden-Wuertemberg), Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia and EU candidate countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Moldova, Montenegro, as well as three districts on the territory of Ukraine.

The Danube program will use funding of EUR 202 095 405 under the ERDF, as well as a total of EUR 19 800 under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and funding under the European Neighborhood Instrument.

The Balkan-Mediterranean Program aims to build on shared territorial assets and promote integrated territorial development and cooperation for a more competitive and sustainable development of the Balkan and Mediterranean region.

The program includes Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria, as well as two EU candidate countriess – Albania and Macedonia.

Its implementation will be financed with EUR 28 330 108 under the ERDF and EUR 5 126 138 under the IPA.
