Bulgaria: Top Management of Road Infrastructure Agency Replaced
Engineer Ivan Dosev was removed from the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency.
Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) mulls terminating a contract with a Greek company tasked with building a section of the Struma motorway.
The construction of the motorway section, which is near the Bulgarian-Greek border, has come to a standstill and no activity is underway.
The 16-km section of the Struma motorway is to be completed by October 15, according to reports of econ.bg.
Half of the 16-km motorway section was expected to be launched in August in order to ease traffic towards Greece in the summer.
However, no equipment is currently on the site, no construction activities are underway, and the motorway section is still at the stage of earthworks.
According to RIA, the launch of the motorway section will be delayed by at least two months.
RIA Director Lazar Lazarov pledged in an interview for bTV that the contract with the Greek contractor would be terminated unless the company managed to fast-track the construction activities.
He also explained that the construction of the motorway section would be completed after organizing an additional procedure in that case.
