Universities in Bulgaria Close Doors in Protest Over Insufficient Funding
In Bulgaria, 44 universities will not open their doors today as a form of protest
The Union of Veterinarians in Bulgaria has organized a national protest in front of the Council of Ministers in Sofia, Wednesday.
The Veterinary Union claims that the state policy in the sector is destroying the stock-breeding and is against the protection of human health, Bulgarian National Radio reports.
Several days ago the government approved the new fares to be paid to veterinarians for the implementation of the state animal prevention program. According to Dr. Miroslav Parvanov the new prices are 3-4 times lower and are below the cost of the planned activities.
He warned that there are new cases of long forgotten diseases such as tuberculosis, measles, bluetongue in the country.
The Veterinary Union will send a letter to the European Commission and the Chairman of the European Parliament's agriculture commission, as they believe that the decision of the state will result in sanctions from Brussels.
