Bulgarian teachers are joining in an EU-wide petition for increasing education spending to 5% of each country's GDP.
In order to be successful, the petition needs to gather 1 million votes by August 6. Currently, there are around 600,000, according to Dariknews.
If the petition succeeds, and is passed by the European Parliament, it will allow for the removal of public spending deficit in the education section of the budget, the president of the Bulgarian Teachers' Syndicate, Yanka Takeva stated.
Takeva's hopes are that the changes will be passed in time for drafting the 2015 state budget, where the Syndicate will call for 15% salary raises for teachers.
