Turkey has thrown its support behind outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the position of NATO Secretary General,
Bulgaria must confirm its commitment towards NATO for increasing defense spending to 2% of its GDP, said President Rosen Plevneliev.
Plevneliev took part in the meeting of Central and Eastern European leaders and US President Barack Obama in Warsaw, as part of the 25th anniversary of Poland's first post-Communist democratic elections.
"We cannot keep excusing ourselves with the economic crisis. We must work for our security, and this means increased investments", Plevneliev stated.
The President added that Bulgaria needs to become more active in joint defense projects with its NATO allies, especially with its neighboring countries.
On his part, President Obama reiterated his support for Eastern Europe, after stating on Tuesday that the United States is planning to invest USD 1 B in the region's security.
