Erdogan: Corruption Probe Aims to Overthrow Power in Turkey
The true goal behind a high-profile corruption investigation that has shaken up Turkey is to overthrow legitimate power, argued Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Speaking to journalists Thursday, the Turkish PM said that according to him behind the probe, conducted by prosecution and police, a plot against Turkey is to be seen.
"My son was targeted too. Circling around him, they want to also get to me," commented Erdogan, as reported by NTV.
The Turkish PM has already multiple times admonished foreign ambassadors to Turkey not to take positions on the scandal, implying foreign interference.
Starting in May, Turkey has been shaken by the vastest anti-cabinet protests for decades.
In what started as the Occupy Gezi movement, thousands walked out in the streets of major Turkish cities, clashing with riot police, to protest against what they see as an anti-secular and anti-democratic direction that the longtime PM is taking the country.
