Winter Tourism: 1.8 Million Visit Bulgaria
Bulgaria has witnessed a bustling winter tourism season, with a total of 1.8 million tourists gracing its picturesque landscapes from December 1 to March 25
Experts from Bulgaria's Forestry Agency have sent a file of signals to the Smolyan regional Prosecutor's Office regarding unwarranted expansion of top winter resort Pamporovo.
During their recent check, inspectors have identified multiple cases of clearing of forests that does not follow the permits for the resort.
In addition, they have determined that several facilities, including a new lift and a new artificial snow machine, have been built in violation of the Forestry Act.
In addition to signaling the prosecution, inspectors have ordered the halting of all activities modifying the facilities.
Pamporovo, one of Bulgaria's three top winter resorts, alongside Bansko and Borovets, is located in the Rhodope Mountains, off the city of Smolyan in southern Bulgaria.
Plans to expand facilities at Pamporovo were revealed over the summer and raised criticism by environmentalists.
