Residents of the northern Bulgarian village of Telish staged a peaceful protest rally on Sunday to oppose plans to set up a refugee center at the former military barracks.
The protesters gave up on their initial plans to block the railroad tracks and instead blocked traffic on the road connecting the cities of Pleven and Ruse for some 15 minutes, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Television.
The protesters warned that they were not going to surrender their civic stance and reminded that they were waiting for a response by government officials that the decision to set up a refugee center in the village would be cancelled.
No clashes between protesters and police took place on Sunday.
A round-the-clock blockade at the level crossing to the former military barracks, which aims to prevent steps to accommodate refugees, continues.
