Code yellow for potentially dangerous weather, due to early October cold spell, has been declared Saturday for 14 regions in northern, western and central Bulgaria.

The warning has been issued by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS.

The code is effective for the regions of Sofia, Sofia City, Pernik, Kyustendil, Vratsa, Vidin and Montana, Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv and Pazardzhik, where in the mornings the mercury will fall to 0C.

The rest of Bulgaria is under code green.

Saturday is set to be cool, but sunny across the country, with highs in the range of 11-16C; 13C in the capital Sofia.

Starting Monday, the weather will warm up again, setting the stage of what is expected to be a warmer and sunny next week.

Code yellow means potentially dangerous weather, where the forecast is not for unusual meteorological events, but requires people to exercise caution.
