Quest for Peace: Hamas Contemplates Truce Amid Ceasefire Talks
Efforts persist to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, with the latter considering a proposed 40-day truce from Israel.
Bulgaria's National Security Services, NSO, officially deny reports that one of their cars, transporting Prime Minister, Plamen Oresharski, has been stopped and forced to make an U-turn due to a road blockade staged by anti-government protesters.
An official statement confirms that a NSO automobile has been stopped by a road blockade in the affluent suburb of Boyana in the capital Sofia, but no VIPs, guarded by NSO, have been inside.
It was reported earlier Monday that 20 people have staged a road blockade in Boyana to prevent Oresharski from going to work. They stood on the road shouting "Resignation" and "Mafia," forcing the drivers of the NSO pilot and Oresharski's automobiles to make U-turns as the security protocol requires.
Monday is the 18th consecutive day of massive peaceful protests in the country and a bigger rally is to start at 6:30 pm.
The peaceful anti-government demonstrations in Bulgaria were triggered by the appointment of notorious media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).
The decision was eventually reversed, yet protesters went on to demand the resignation of the socialist-led government over ties with oligarchs, an end to opaque policies, and Election Code amendments aimed at guaranteeing a greater representation of Bulgarian citizens in the government.
