The first Bulgarian festival in the US city of Philadelphia took place on May 25 in honoring May 24 – the National Day of Culture and Slavic Script.
The information about the magnificent event was reported for Novinite.bg and Novinite.com by Bulgarian expats living in the area.
Nearly 600 of them arrived for the festival from all over Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware, among others.
Many folk troupes, including the famous "Bosilek," established in New York in the now-distant 1979, delighted the audience.
All proceedings from the raffle will be used to fund the two Bulgarian schools in Philadelphia and the "I Can Too" Foundation.
Bulgarian Ambassador in Washington DC, Elena Poptodorova, and Bulgarian Consul General in New York City, Radoslav Tochev, were special guests of the festival.
According to Poptodorova, in her many years of service in the US, she had never seen such large-scale and so well-organized Bulgarian event.
The organizers say they aimed at preserving Bulgarian spirit, language, and culture for the next Bulgarian generation all over the world.
